Mullingar Library hosts prizegiving for “Star Readers”
During the summer, Mullingar Library challenged children to “Reach for the stars” and read as often as possible throughout the summer.
On Friday 13th Sept, children and their families gathered together for the prizegiving. They were joined by the Cathaoirleach of Westmeath County Council, Cllr. Peter Burke who was delighted to acknowledge the families efforts to maintain reading ability over the summer as well as supporting a love of reading for pleasure.
Winners of the Summer Reading Challenge Draw included:

Congratulations to all who took part and thanks to all those who helped us succeed in the library challenge by reading 15824 childrens books during the Summer Reading Challenge

Public Consultation open on Draft Strategy on Public Libraries 2013-2017
The draft national strategy for libraries will be open to public consultation from the 2nd of September 2013 to the 11th of October 2013. The draft public libraries strategy is an initiative of the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government, the County and City Managers’ Association and the Local Government Management Agency. It sets out a plan for the systematic growth and development of public libraries in Ireland for the period 2013 to 2017 in the context of people’s changing needs, Government policy and the current and predicted economic, social and cultural environment.
