FIRST FLASH FICTION COMPETITION

AN OPEN INVITATION TO WRITERS … WHETHER PREVIOUSLY PUBLISHED OR ASPIRING … TO SUBMIT A STORY FOR ATHLONE LITERARY FESTIVAL’S FIRST FLASH FICTION COMPETITION

We’re looking for a story, no more than 300 words, in response to :

‘A fly on the castle wall.’

Stories to be sent (titled on each page) with name, address and phone number of the author on a separate sheet to: The Secretary, Athlone Literary Festival, c/o Walker O’Carroll & Hogan, Pearse Street, Athlone.

Envelopes to be marked ‘Flash Fiction Comp.’ Entry fee €5 per story, no more than two entries per writer.

Extended Closing date for receipt : 5pm on 18th September 2012. The Westmeath Independent has kindly agreed to publish the winning story and in addition, the winner shall receive €150. Second prize will be €100 and €60 for third. Shortlisted stories will be announced a week before the Festival weekend (5, 6 and 7 October 2012), and shortlisted entrants may be invited to read their stories at events over that weekend.
